Your Mental Game

As a shooting guard, keep working on staying calm in tight moments and using your voice to lead the team. How will you use your drive and love of competition to build a short pre-shot routine and calm your breath before big shots? What will you practice each day so your coachable habits turn into steady leadership on game night?
Your Physical Game

Great work rate and balance stood out, and your strength lets you handle contact on drives. Your quick first step and jump make you a real threat when attacking and when contesting shots. Do short sprints and resisted sprints to keep building top speed. Add cone drills and two short jump sessions a week to sharpen your cuts and keep your takeoff strong.
Your Technical Game

As a shooting guard, your finishing at the rim and your work on the boards are real strengths. A top guard has the same skills but also moves with cleaner footwork and protects the ball even when under pressure. You can tighten your feet on pivots, use short strong dribble moves, and practice two-ball and pressure dribbling to hold the ball better. Also keep doing quick, sharp passing and lots of catch-and-shoot and step-back reps so your shot comes out faster and more reliable.

Work on your thought speed with drills that force fast choices under pressure. As a shooting guard, practice quick reads on closeouts, catch-and-shoots, and moving hard without the ball to improve spacing. You already see plays early and have great vision, so use that to make fast passes and take smart shots. Keep talking on defense and use your spot on the floor to cut off passes and slow the other team.
What Coach Warren Says About You
I've watched James Martin at camp and he stands out as a shooting guard who really reads the game—he sees plays before they happen and recognizes tempo so he can control the pace when the team needs it. He consistently knows when to shoot or pass and shows the awareness of time and score to make the right play. As a guard he rebounds aggressively: getting into position, boxing out defenders and grabbing the ball with two hands to secure possession. He’s a strong finisher at the rim, uses his body to absorb contact and finishes with both hands, and he’s shown improvement handling physical challenges while staying balanced and helping teammates. He responds well to coaching, asks good questions, brings contagious energy, has the endurance to stay effective late, and clearly wants to win—he’d fit well in a program that values effort, intelligence and toughness.
